Visual Conversations with Women in the Arts II

Ann Thiermann's upcoming show "Visual Conversations with Women in the Arts II" pairs her twenty pastel and acrylic portraits of local outstanding artists at work with individual audio and visual examples from each artist. Thiermann gives the viewer a unique insight into the diversity of tools, media, and scale of local work and an intimate view of the beauty of each woman's hands at work, at the loom, keyboard, or easel. A show for all the senses, the viewer can look and listen to the musicians and dancers, and look and feel pieces by a lacemaker, bookbinder, sculptor, or painter. The artist's attention to detail and use of classical light give the viewer a genuine sense of presence and intimacy with each artist depicted. There is also an informative tool room filled with familiar tools used by the artists in their paintings, with game sheets and clues related to the portraits throughout the gallery. Ann Thiermann is a California muralist, and on the faculty at Cabrillo and Monterey Peninsula Colleges, and organist/pianist at Christ Lutheran Church of Aptos.
