PVAC Receives $25,000 Grant from Rydell Visual Arts Fund

The Pajaro Valley Arts Council (PVAC) has received a grant of $25,000 from the Rydell Visual Arts Fund administered by The Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County.
This generous grant will be used to fund an expansion of the PVAC Art Education Program. The main component of this program is the school tours offered during the approximately 6 shows each year, including the Sculpture IS show at Sierra Azul. A bilingual staff person leads the tours and with the grant funds, PVAC will be able to budget substantially more tours for shows in 2010-2011.
In order to better communicate the art exhibits and programs to the schools, staff time can be further dedicated to outreach and educational coordination related to the arts. The second component of the educational program that is being funded by this grant includes providing written educational materials specific to the art exhibits. With the loss of arts programs in local schools, PVAC provides a unique experience for learning to understand and appreciate visual arts, as well as learning how visual arts can enhance the understanding of each other and the world. One way in which PVAC can assist local schools is by providing bilingual written materials to help students better understand and experience its exhibits. The Rydell Visual Arts Fund grant will greatly support PVAC in its mission of “bringing the community together through the arts.”
